Theology Thursday

Thursdays, 7:00-8:30pm

A space to explore theology

What is it?

Theology Thursday is an open seminar to discuss topics about our Christian faith and practice.

Our desire is to create a safe place to wrestle with difficult questions - listening to God and to one another.

Each week during school terms we gather to discuss biblical themes, facilitated by Worldview's faculty. The format is based on the presentation of an idea in a short seminar, discussion questions around tables, Q&A and input on theological skills necessary to navigate some of these big questions.

This is a free event, but you may like to purchase some of the resources we use to frame our discussions.

Term 2, 2024

This term the topic for Theology Thursday is “The Normal Christian Birth.” We will be looking at what it means to become a follower of Jesus, specifically, at the topics of Repentance, Faith, Water Baptism, and Spirit Baptism. What are they? Are they necessary? When, and how do they happen?

We will be basing this discussion on an older, popular, but also controversial book by David Pawson, The Normal Christian Birth. You may like to purchase your own digital copy (Amazon; Google). Pawson argues that all these four things need to happen in the process of becoming born again. Since these topics are the battleground of the Reformation, and often the marker of denominational differences, we should have fruitful and thought-provoking discussions.

Preliminary Schedule:

16 May — Exploring the Issue

23 May — What is Repentance? Why is it necessary?

30 May — What is Faith? Why is it necessary?

06 June — What is Water Baptism? Why is it necessary?

13 June — What is Spirit Baptism? Why is it necessary?

[20 June — Summary & Conclusions…] tbd

In Term 4, 2023, we focused on the theme of eschatology.

Relying on Ian Paul's work called "Kingdom, Hope and the End of the World: The 'Now' and 'Not Yet' of Eschatology", this exploration will dive into what it means to think about the afterlife, the Old Testament understanding of hope, the Gospel implications in the New Testament, and what it means to work through this from a pastoral perspective today.

You may like to purchase your own digital copy of this book to track with us. Grove Biblical are interested in stimulating and equipping Christian community by providing clear and concise explorations of Christian living and ministry.

These small books cover an extensive range of topics and are easily accessible.

Ian Paul's work on eschatology can be purchased digitally here.
